Dear Parents,
As you all know that this is a very different world than the one we grew up in as children.
Question: "What does it mean to 'spare the rod, spoil the child'?"
Answer: The phrase “spare the rod, spoil the child” is a modern-day proverb that means if a parent refuses to discipline an unruly child, that child will grow accustomed to getting his own way. He will become, in the common vernacular, a spoiled brat. The word rod indicates a thin stick or switch that can be used to give a small amount of physical pain with no lasting physical injury. A child should never be bruised, injured, or cut by a physical correction.
Have you ever heard one of the people who have committed some hideous crime on innocent people say, “Judge, I did it because when I was child I was held to much, rocked and cuddled whenever I was afraid and was given unconditional love so as to never feel alone.”? No, if anything you hear just the opposite. So don’t be afraid to hold your child as often as you can, talk to them, listen to them, hear them and let them know that you will always be there for them. That is far from spoiling them.
Children lack the maturity and ability to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions in words and at times it just comes out in the form of a meltdown (a very fast loss of emotional self control). Anyone who gives you the stink eye because your child is having a meltdown, lacks the maturity or memory of what it was like to be the parent of a young child. But most of us remember those days and are likely to be the ones giving you a look of complete understanding.
Finally, we know that no discipline feels good while it is happening, but afterwards the rewards are rich.
But at the same time you must also remember that is never; ever think that if you hold your child too much you will spoil them.
My Best Parenting Advice: To correct your child you do need to use the rod sometimes if he is being too naughty but also never, ever think that if you hold your child too much You will spoil him. You Can Never Spoil a Child With Love
I hope all parents will agree with me, but just in case I have gone wrong on any of the advice, I stand corrected.
Bye for now!
