Chinese Meatballs Recipe

Hi Friends,

Greetings to all!

Enjoy the classic Chinese meatballs in a healthier way, without compromising on flavor.

Chinese meatballs are also called lion’s head (shi zi tou). They feature tender, moist, and light meatballs with a savory taste. This dish is a staple food for my family, because it’s quite easy to cook in big batches and is so comforting to enjoy any time. Eating the savory meatballs with rice is as addictive as eating a burger.  Juicy and flavorful meat and starch are the best combo in the world.

Enjoy yourself!

Chinese Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients

Meatballs - 26 Nos.
½ kg lean ground meat of your choice
½ a white onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 TBS soy sauce
1 TBS sesame oil
1/4 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp ground ginger
1 egg
1/4 cup oil (vegetable or coconut oil)

Sauce - ½ Cup
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup rice vinegar
2 TBS honey
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cornstarch

Vegetables
1 red bell pepper, chopped into 3/4 inch squares
Cup of Chopped Pok Choy and Brocolli
4 - 6 snow peas
6 Dried Mushrooms
(You can also use vegetables of your choice)

Cooking Directions

In a large bowl, use freshly washed hands to mix together the ground meat of your choice, chopped onion and garlic, 2 TBS of soy sauce, sesame oil, coriander, cardamom, ginger and the egg.

Divide meat mixture into 26 one inch meatballs, rolling them between your hands.

Heat oil on medium high in a large skillet. Fry meatballs in batches, making sure not to crowd them in the skillet.

Let the meatballs brown on one side, then use tongs to turn them until they’re browned all over. Remove to a paper towel lined plate.

As the last batch of meatballs is cooking, make your sauce by whisking together the 1/4 cup soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, onion powder, garlic powder and cornstarch. Heat on high, stirring until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.  Add the meatballs, and all vegetables.  Cook until the sauce coats the meatballs and the vegetables are tender.

To serve place meatballs and cooked vegetable over steamed rice
